Finally, a Restroom on Every Floor

New plumbing brings access, inclusion, and protection for the building's future

"Honestly, I never realized there wasn't a restroom on the first floor of the parish house until I was trying to find it...fast!" So confessed one parishioner, who asked to remain anonym

ous for reasons we respect.

That sprint is about to be retired. When ELEVATE wraps up, the main floor of the parish house will have a restroom of its own for the first time, just steps from the nursery, which families with small children will recognize as the best sentence in this newsletter.

The new restroom is fully ADA accessible and incorporates dementia-aware design, which uses intentional contrast between walls, floors, and fixtures so the whole room stays easy to see and navigate at a glance. It is one more way of making sure everyone who walks through our doors is fully included, right down to the paint and tile.

The quiet star of this phase is what nobody will see, a more resilient building. A new plumbing stack serves every floor, ready for future needs. Courtyard drainage, new downspouts, a foundation membrane, area wells, sump pumps, backflow prevention, separated kitchen wastewater, and a better-insulated parish house roof all address water, plumbing, and weather risks that have nagged the building for years. None of it is glamorous, but neither is mopping, and we would know.
