One of Davis’ strongest memories is his ordination to the priesthood … right here at St. Luke’s! An Episcopal priest since 1967, Davis has held continuous full-time and part-time leadership positions with various Chicago-area Episcopal churches (including Church of Our Saviour, Chicago; St. Matthew’s, Evanston; St. Augustine’s, Wilmette; Holy Comforter, Kenilworth; and Christ Church, Winnetka).
A “tentmaker” or bi-vocational priest, Davis entered the business world in 1969, and his business career spans several years in the following areas: private banking and personal trust management; sales and sales training; presentations and consulting on one’s “personal relationship” to money; and, fundraising/development work, most recently with Episcopal Relief & Development (the non-profit international humanitarian arm of the Episcopal Church - focused on disaster relief and impoverished community development). With a strong belief in the “priesthood of all believers” and the ministry of the laity, Davis now focuses on the growth of tentmaking ministry in this era of “Emergence Christianity” and Total Ministry.
Davis earned a BA from Lawrence University in Wisconsin, a Master’s in Divinity from The General Theological Seminary in New York City, an MBA from the University of Chicago, and a Master’s in Society & Ethics (MTS) from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary on the Northwestern University campus.
Davis is married to Linda, has three children and two step-children, six grandchildren, and resides in Evanston.
