Kenya’s NHIF (National Health Insuarence Fund) requires grandparents to provide documents linking them to their grandchildren in order to qualify for hospital coverage under the current governmental model of traditional family units, previously defined only as parents and their immediate children.
Thus, Ember Project is working with the Child Welfare Office to get foster-parent designations for these nontraditional family units. Additionally, Ember Project is providing the much needed funds for those family units who could not otherwise afford the cost of such health insurance.
Last year, a total of 177 Ember families enrolled in the program and 156 hospital visits were made possible through the financial support donated to pay health insurance premiums.
This year, 105 Ember families will be enrolled in the program.
You can help us provide these families with health insurance.
