EFM Class Now in Session: Have you studied the Bible, and ended up with more questions than when you started? Have you always wanted to learn more about Christianity, about the history, the theology, the spirituality, about how it affects your daily life? Do you like to gather with small groups of people for study and discussion? EFM might be just for you.
Education for Ministry is a program sponsored by the University of the South School of Theology. Students sign up and pay for one year at a time; the program takes four years to complete, and covers the Bible (over two years), Judeo-Christian history, and theology. It's a lot of work, but very worthwhile. There are study aids and questions accommodating different styles of learning.
Groups usually meet for 2-3 hours, every other week, following the traditional school year. What sets EFM apart from a traditional Bible study is the Theological Reflection Process. The group learns to examine life experiences, or readings, or scriptural passages, and reflect on what Christianity, culture, and group members believe about those experiences.
The result is that members learn to see that people's interactions with God didn't end with the last page of the Bible—they happen all the time, and are seldom obvious. EFM is a wonderful way to connect with your faith, your fellow parishioners and others, and yourself. Many people at St. Luke's can attest to the value of the experience and will gladly answer any questions you have about EFM. For more information, or to sign up for our next group, please talk to The Rev. Dr. Jeannette DeFriest, Phyllis Robb or Jane Young.
