Church built at Hinman and Lee; rectory purchased at Judson and Greenleaf. Stewart was noted as an Anglo-Catholic writer and preacher. Elected bishop of Chicago, with St Luke's as procathedral.

Paid off mortgage. Later became bishop of Albany.
Edward Thomas Taggard 1945-54: fostered Anglo-Catholic traditions.

Heightened Anglo-Catholic traditions, purchased St Luke Shrine, tabernacle in Lady Chapel, etc.

Renewed liturgical and spiritual life of parish, had first woman celebrant. Later bishop of North Michigan.

Developed outreach(soup kitchens, ties to Family Matters, Education for Ministry, etc.), hired first woman associate rector.
