Reverend Dr. Jeannette DeFriest
Rector
Email Jeannette DeFriest (Ph: 847-475-3630 X22)
Jeannette is a native Californian, who did her undergraduate work in architecture and design at California Polytechnic State University, eventually becoming a museum exhibit designer on the east coast. She received her Master of Divinity degree from Episcopal Divinity School in Boston and sought ordination from the diocese of Vermont. She received her Doctor of Ministry degree in Congregational Development from Seabury Institute in June 2004.

Jeannette spent almost three years as associate rector at St. Luke's Montclair, NJ, before being sent to be Priest in-Charge of a mission church in Chester, NJ. The Church of the Messiah had just completed a highly controversial and expensive building project, and its Vicar had resigned. Jeannette worked with the congregation of Messiah, was called to be their Vicar, helped them pay off their $1.6 million mortgage, and was later called to be Rector of the Parish Church of the Messiah.

Jeannette was attracted to St. Luke's Evanston by its reputation, and especially by its Discernment Report, which she saw as an honest and insightful attempt to grapple with our differences and our strengths.

Jonathan Scarozza
Organist/Choirmaster email Jonathan
Jonathan received his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in piano from the University of Kentucky, and he received his Master’s Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. In 1999, he was Organ Scholar at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Buffalo, NY. He comes to us from St. Luke’s in Atlanta, and previously from the Cathedral of the Incarnation on Long Island, New York, where he was Associate Organist/Choirmaster and directed the Girls’ Choir.

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Jonathan spent many years in the Men and Boys Choir at St. Paul’s Cathedral, a very similar program to the program that exists here at St. Luke’s, Evanston. Jonathan is very grateful for the opportunity to continue worshipping and making music with us the way he has since he was a child.
