Parish Profile
Worship is a significant aspect of the “gathering” in St. Luke’s
parish motto, “Gather and Go Forth.” The official canons of the Episcopal Church place the responsibility and
authority for a congregation’s worship services squarely on the rector’s
shoulders. This includes stewardship of one of St. Luke’s greatest
gifts – the wonderful group of non-staff ordained folk who preside,
preach, and assist in so many ways with congregational life. The Worship Commission brings
together the clergy and music staff as well as the lay coordinators of acolytes,
altar guild, chalice bearers, counters, intercessors, lectors, liturgy,
chalice bearers, and ushers.
We have had many hallmarks in the past few years, buoyed by an increase in community building and wonderful services, and thanks to the efforts of many. In 2004, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the consecration of the Parish by Bishop Conklin on Pentecost, complete with a service booklet modeled on the original from that year. In 2005, we celebrated the 120th anniversary of the founding of the congregation and, in 2006, the 100th anniversary of the groundbreaking of the current parish church location.
In January, 2005 we had a wonderful first meeting with our new Rector, Jeannette DeFriest. Leading the musical worship at the 10:00AM Eucharist, Organist/Choirmaster, Jonathan Scarozza also came to St. Luke's in January. We encourage all to consider participating in the ministries. You are needed and will be welcomed.
